Explosives ordnance disposal started with the collection and disposal of ammunition
lying or stacked on the surface. Later, the sub surfaced areas up to a depth of 50 cm
were also searched for munitions and disposed of using very simple methods and techniques.
The use of electronic detectors enabled Tauber to search and detect war munitions at
a much deeper depth. Due to the increased activity of rebuilding and building, it was
necessary to search, detect and disarm war munitions prior to beginning construction.
Several different underground engineering measures including the securing of excavations
and drainage also need to be performed while executing the ordnance disposal.
The use of machinery today has helped reduce the loss of life and limb and has increased
